Job Possibilities

If you're thinking of moving to an expensive city like Scottsdale, Arizona, it's doubly important to secure yourself a decent job. Every economy has the capability of supporting people of a variety of skill sets. For example, everywhere has pipes, so everywhere needs plumbers who know their bite type fittings inside and out. However, there are some job sectors in Scottsdale that you are more likely to find a job in than others. We list them for you here. Commuting to Phoenix isn't listed, but many residents do that.

Hospitality

Tourism is the primary driving force of Scottsdale's economy, so as you would expect, there are a lot of jobs at hotels, restaurants, and night clubs. Major resort hotels like the Phoenician need a variety of employees from desk clerks to maids, porters to security guards, tennis instructors to boiler water treatment chemical specialists, so don't discount a career in hospitality before investigating all the possibilities. For those with degrees, all hotels have management and marketing office staff.

Personal Beauty

Scottsdale has the highest concentration of destination spas per capita in the country, and they must be staffed by someone. Opportunities here will be for masseurs, cosmetologists, yoga instructors, hosts, and the like on the front end. Behind the scenes, they'll need people to clean and maintain the pools and fabricated strainers, take bookings, and develop sales strategies.

Sales

People who are adept at convincing other people to spend money will have two options in Scottsdale. The first is to take a retail sales position at one of the high end shops or malls that cater to the area's affluent tourists. The other is to obtain a real estate license and serve the same people when they decide they want to stay in Scottsdale permanently. While you may have some customers who run automatic banding machines for a living, most will be executives, doctors, lawyers, and other affluent career people who are used to getting their way, so make sure you're prepared to be accommodating.

Aviation/Technology

The Scottsdale Air Park has seen success in recent years because of the number of private and charter flights used by the city's more affluent visitors. A business park has sprung up around it, offering opportunities for the more technologically inclined. Some businesses in the park are maid services or small airlines, but most are involved with computers, so this may be the best option for anyone with the training to use online collaboration tools.
